LITERACY NIGHT 3025
1. PHILOSOPHY AND RATIONALE
1.1 SCHEDULING SCHOOL, SPORTS AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
1.1.1 The Sevier School District Board of Education has thoughtfully analyzed education research and parental surveys related to the importance of parental involvement in a child’s education. As a result the Board has determined that it is in the best interest of students, parents, and school personnel, to designate one evening each week that will be free from activities sponsored by/or hosted at schools in the Sevier School District.
1.1.2 The Board of Education hereby finds that it is in the best interest of the school enterprise and the faculty, staff, parents and students that schools shall be closed one-week night each week. It is anticipated by the Board of Education that this period of time will be used by students and their families entirely as they see fit.
1.1.3 The Board of Education shall encourage staff to make available to students and families, materials that encourage parental involvement in their child's learning. The materials may include information on literacy, school performance, attendance, homework activities, and other important information related to the education of children and the positive use of extra curricular and other free time. The Board recommends that families use these materials on the designated night or at other times to enhance parental involvement in the children's learning.
