North Sevier Middle School - Trust Land Report 2012-13

November 7, 2013

Dear Patrons,

Each year, schools around Utah receive monies from the Utah State School Land Trust. These monies are

used to improve our abilities to educated students and are controlled by our own NSMS School

Community Council. In compliance with the law, this information of our final 2012-13 Trust Land

Report is being provided to you. It will provide you with a summary of how the money was spent and

results of our 2013 spring testing.

2012-13 Expenditures:

• 8 classroom projectors were purchased to replace old, outdated projectors.

• Ceiling mounts and cables were purchased to increase flexibility and efficiency of projector and

document camera use in the classroom.

• Brain Pop Online Software was purchased for the entire school for a two-year period.

• Some monies used to purchase new books for our media center to maintain current reading

selections.

2012-13 Test Results:

Because we use the NWEA test in the fall, winter, and spring, we are able to not only measure grade level

proficiency, but also growth as well. The percentages of students reported hereafter that obtained growth,

obtained a full years growth based on their individual level as measured in the fall testing. This includes

students at ALL academic levels. Sevier School District Goals were that we would have 60% proficiency

OR growth in Language & Reading and 70% proficiency OR growth in Math & Science. We obtained

the following results:

6th– Language            68% Proficient            82% Growth

6th– Reading               45% Proficient            43% Growth

6th- Math                     63% Proficient            59% Growth

6th– Science               79% Proficient             95% Growth

7th– Language            61% Proficient            47% Growth

7th– Reading               49% Proficient            60% Growth

7th- Math                     70% Proficient            70% Growth

7th– Science                93% Proficient            94% Growth

8th– Language            65% Proficient            54% Growth

8th– Reading               56% Proficient            47% Growth

8th- Math                      54% Proficient            58% Growth

8th– Science                85% Proficient            82% Growth

As can be observed, NSMS achieved 8 of the 12 goals by obtaining either proficiency or growth in each

subject/grade level. The vast majority of our students achieved growth during this school year. The

reported growth is only those students that achieved a FULL years growth. We will continue to strive to

make this happen for all students at all levels.

If you have any questions regarding this report, please contact me at the school.

Dear Patrons,

Each year, schools around Utah receive monies from the Utah State School Land Trust.  These monies are used to improve our abilities to educated students and are controlled by our own NSMS School Community Council.  In compliance with the law, this information of our final 2011-12 Trust Land Report is being provided to you.  It will provide you with a summary of how the money was spent and results of our 2012 spring testing.

2011-12 Test Results:

Because we use the NWEA test in the fall, winter, and spring, we are able to not only measure grade level proficiency, but also growth as well.  The percentages of students reported hereafter that obtained growth, obtained a full years growth based on their individual level as measured by fall testing.  Sevier School District Goals are that we would have 60% proficiency OR growth in Language & Reading and 70% proficiency OR growth in Math & Science.  We obtained the following results:

6th– Language            74% Proficient/71% Growth            6th– Reading            63% Proficient/60% Growth

6th- Math                   72% Proficient/49% Growth            6th– Science               97% Proficient//99% Growth

This was an excellent year for NSMS.  As can be observed, NSMS achieved ALL 12 goals by obtaining either proficiency or growth in every subject area at every grade level.  In fact, NSMS obtained BOTH proficiency AND growth in 10 of the 12 areas.  We also were at or above the school district averages in 17 of 24 measurements.  It should be noted that in over 90% of the tests administered our students achieved proficiency, growth, or both.
