1. Purpose:
To establish the framework for employee dress in the School District.

2. Policy:

2.1. Employees are expected to dress in good taste and to be well groomed according to community standards for a professional employee. Cleanliness of self and attire, neatness, and attractive grooming are stressed and expected.  Additionally, employees occupying positions with uniform requirements shall follow directives and procedure as may be required.

3. Procedure:
Employees should always dress in a manner that in such a way will encourage students to equally uphold the student dress policy.
3.1.     Principals have the responsibility to uphold community standards in implementing the District Employee Dress Code.  Principals have the responsibility to communicate the standards to employees.  If employees refuse to follow the established employee dress code, principals should first speak with the employee about the concern, explaining the value and need to maintain high standards and to provide positive examples to students.

3.2.    Since no dress standard can cover all contingencies, employees must exercise a certain amount of judgment in their choice of clothing to wear to work.   Again, the general expectation is that all clothing worn to work is clean, neat, in good repair and modest in style.  These standards are not intended to supplant dress requirements of certain departments that have employee uniforms (i.e. Custodial, Maintenance, Food Service).

3.2.1    Slacks, Pants
Pants/Slacks worn in the workplace are expected to project a professional image.

3.2.2    Skirts and Dresses
Dresses and skirts that are split at or near the knee are acceptable. Dresses and skirts should be at a length at which one can sit comfortably in public and adhere to community standards.

3.2.3    Shirts, Tops, and Blouses
Shirts, tops, and blouses worn in the workplace are expected to project a professional image.   Men and women should wear appropriate shirts that cover shoulders, stomach, back, lower back, and chest.

3.2.4    Hair and Grooming
Hair, which is so conspicuous, extreme, or odd in color or style that draws undue attention, disrupts, or tends to disrupt or interfere with the learning atmosphere at the school, shall not be allowed.  All employees shall maintain their hair, mustaches, sideburns, and beards in a clean, well-groomed manner.

3.2.5    Shoes and Footwear
Footwear worn in the workplace is expected to project a professional image.  All employees are expected to wear appropriate footwear that allows participation in educational activities and allows the employee to perform all required duties of their work assignment.

 3.2.6    Body Piercings and Tattoos
Body piercing or tattoos that would interrupt school decorum or adversely affect the educational process must be covered or removed.  Employees may be required to remove earrings, which pose a safety hazard or create a disruption.
