It was discussed that we felt we had a good plan in place at the conclusion of this meeting. We determined that when the plan had the needed updates it would be emailed out to all council members. The council further discussed voting via email rather than reconvening on February 7 as previously scheduled.
We discussed Governor Cox’s letter regarding cell phones in schools. We had a lengthy discussion and the various opinions were shared. As a council, it was determined that a balanced approach would be necessary rather than a rigid approach. Specific reason why students would need to have cell phones was discussed as well as safety concerns. The conversation shifted to technology use in general. Many of the council members were concerned about technology use in general at school and home. The district’s content filter was discussed and the conversation concluded.
Questions were asked about funding and how our different programs funded salaries and benefits for our faculty and staff. It was determined that we needed to retain as many of our instructional assistants as possible and even possibly hire more if possible to meet the growing needs of our students. Following this discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
