  1. Welcome and Minutes
  1. Welcome to the meeting.
  2. Minutes read and approved. Minutes are on the Pahvant website.

  1. Review & Finalize Next Year’s Proposed Plan/New Legislation
  1. Natalie Gordon with the Trust Lands Committee at the State Office, helped Mr. Johnson with new legislation which cut some verbiage and simplified the Plan from 3 pages to 1½ pages, and 3 goals into 1 goal with bullets.
  2. Mr. Johnson added the last bullet on #2.
  3. Council agreed to add another bullet on #2 to include professional development based on PBIS, positive behavior strategies, such as Restorative Practices, which changes the way we deal with students.
  4. Mr. Johnsn attended the legislature meeting yesterday. Possibility of adding 1 more slot to the 2 we currently have to the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Program. Wants to continue to fund the programs we currently have to ensure we can keep them, including Science field experiences
  5. Coding explination was removed from Plan, as per Natalie Gordon.

  1. Budget
  1. Current Trust Lands estimate-$86,903, almost $7,000 more than anticipated.
  2. $2,000 will be added to Professional Development to cover the additional positive behavior strategies training.
  3. TSSA is $22,009, with a probable 1% increase.
  4. Anticipate TSSA to be spent on Social & Emotional Helth of students, ie. Refocus Room furniture and materials, which will help students academically. It cannot be used for capital expenses, ie. building the room.

  1. Robotics Program
  1. Juab Elementary has a great robotics program. We are going to take a field trip.
  2. Students will fill out a 2 question interest form. Names will be drawn to participate.
  3. 10 3rd grade students, 20 4th grade students, 20 5th grade students, and 5 adults will visit their program.
  4. Purpose
  1. Watch how students interact with the robotics, and
  2. Teachers to know what is needed to do our own program most effectively.

E. Students are mastering the robotics we have in 2-3 days

F. Legos makes a robot with gears and an app for $250 each. It can be coded to swing and hit a ball off a tee. The kit is similar to the Maker Space kits.

G. We need more training and materials.

H. It is our school’s desire to build a great Robotics program that evolves into competitions and is a resource to the rural schools in Central Utah. Juab is the closest school with a robotics program.

  1. Roundtable discussion Trust Lands Plan or Robotics
  1. Suggestion was made to use an overall STEM approach for our program, maybe involve an engineering aspect
  2. Fund some of the materials for the Robotics program with Trust Lands also.
  3. Suggested to add a bullet to the Plan for Professional Development on positive behavior strategies, possibly something like Restorative Practices, as it changes how we deal with student behaviors and $2,000 to the budget.
  4. It is believed that the Community Council’s priorities are in the correct order.
  5. The question was raised as to funding music year-round, in addition to ½ year of art and ½ year of possibly dance? Possibly through extra slot added with the BTS Program.
  6. Robotics instruction is happening during the school day, 6 days this year. Hoping for 9 days of coding next year with a primary focus to get robotics/coding instruction in the grade-level rotations, as happens with science.

  1. Trust Lands/Community Council Audit
  1. All schools in Sevier District will be audited.
  2. Council members may be contacted.

    C. Everything we have done meets the law.

     D. We need to have a Rules and Order of Conduct for our council meetings. Mr.

Johnson will adapt one he found online to meet our needs and email it to all

members as a “Draft” along with the finalized Trust Lands Plan and Budget with

the adjustments discussed today.

     E. Remaining $5,000 of the $7,000 not previously anticipated, will be put into Salaries

         and Benefits.
