Student Emergency Release Plan

The decision to dismiss school early because of a disaster will be communicated by radio, telephone, school and or district level texts, or word of mouth.

When it has been determined it is safe to use buses to transport students home, bus students will be released early to be transported home. Students who walk to school in the preschool elementary, middle and secondary schools up to and including age 15 must remain at the school or command post site until a parent/guardian or designated person arrives to get them. Secondary walking students (age 16 and over) will be released but have the options of 1) waiting at the school for a parent/guardian or designated person to get them or 2) going home immediately. Students under the age of 16 will only be released to those listed on the Emergency Release Form submitted by the parent or legal guardian of the student.

If the school bus fleet is inoperable and/or the disaster, has caused reasonable concern for students attempting to go home, all students (bus and walking)  will remain at school or command post site until a parent/guardian or designated person arrives to get them. The school must be prepared to care for all students in times of crisis.

All students must check out at the principal's office or a designated site before leaving school early because of an emergency or disaster.
