                              Community Council Meeting Minutes - November 6, 2024
Attendees: Paul Mecham, Brittany Hallows, Dennis Anderson, Rod Hinck, Angela Johnson
Absent: Sarah Mecham, Dani Hallows

The meeting was called to order, and Paul motioned to approve the minutes from the September 11, 2024 meeting. Brittany seconded the motion, and all were in favor.

Discussion Topics:

1. Digital Citizenship:
The council discussed all of the ways NSMS utilizes to promote digital citizenship and prevent students from not using technology inappropriately. This included White Ribbon Week, Cell Phone Policy, individual Chromebooks, Acceptable Use Policy in place, LANSchool (digital platform to allow teachers to push out or limit where students can go also monitor them easier), BARK (district monitoring system that send concerning content to principal), and Sevier School District filtering system.

2. School Safety:
The council discussed plans to enhance school safety per new Utah State law including the installation of safety film on all windows to prevent glass from shattering. Additionally, there will be upgrades to the intercom and classroom hearing systems. Plans for a building renovation aimed at improving security were also reviewed. We also discussed our school emergency plan, drills that are conducted, mental health component of safety (Hope Squad, SafeUT, mental health coordinator, PBIS), and Red Ribbon Week.

3. Trust Land Funds:
The estimated Trust Land funds for next year are expected to be similar to this year's allocation. These funds have been used to maintain a teacher position and keep class sizes low and interventions classes possible.

4. Important Dates:
    o Thanksgiving Recess: November 27-29, 2024
    o Winter Holiday Break: December 21, 2024 - January 5, 2025
    o Next Community Council Meeting February 5, 2025 @ 3:00 PM

Brittany motioned to adjourn the meeting, and Paul seconded the motion. All were in favor, and the meeting was concluded.
