SSMS Discipline Procedures

Violations of personal conduct policies, attendance policies or other school or district policies may result in, but are not limited to the following types of discipline responses:

  • Success Team Meeting (includes student, parents, teachers, administration)
  • Lunch Detention
  • Service Work Hours
  • In-School Suspension
  • Out-of-School Suspension
  • Youth Court Referral
  • Sevier County Sherriff's Department (crimes that if committed by an adult would be a felony or Class A misdemeanor)

The expectations of students at South Sevier Middle School are to respect self, others, learning, and our learning environment & property.  Students may choose to violate our policy, however, that allows staff, teachers, and the principal to determine the consequences.

Bullying:  Bullying can be reported via the SafeUT app, students can anonymously report any bullying behavior via the counseling request box (in the office), or can report directly to school administration or teachers.  The person who feels bullied can report this or others who observe bullying type behavior can also report it.  The report should include the name of the person being bullied, the bully, and the actions alleged.  A word of caution: bullying is a serious issue and false reporting or reporting as a prank will be dealt with as severely as bullying behavior itself.

STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Bullying, Cyberbullying, Harassment, and Hazing – Policy #3950 (Summary)

The Board of Education is committed to provide all students and District employees with a safe and secure learning and working environment. Bullying, hazing, cyberbullying, harassment, and retaliation reduce a student’s ability to achieve academically and reduce an employee’s ability to perform their job responsibilities. In addition, bullying hazing, cyberbullying, harassment, and retaliation can directly affect a student’s or an employee’s health and well being, and may contribute to excessive absences, physical illness, mental and emotional anguish, and long-term social and psychological consequences. The Board encourages educators, employees, students, and parents to develop procedures to stop and prevent bullying, hazing, cyberbullying, harassment, and retaliation in Sevier School District.
