ASSAULT / FIGHTS

1.   First ensure the safety of students and staff.

2.   Notify principal.

3.   Notify first aid / CPR certified persons in the school building of medical emergencies and call 911 if necessary.

4.   Seal off area where the assault took place.

5.   De-escalate and defuse the situation as much as possible.

6.   Principal must notify superintendent (or designee) and police if a weapon was used in the assault, if victim has physical injury causing substantial pain or impairment of physical condition, or if  assault involved sexual contact.

7.   Principal notifies parents of students involved in the assault.

8.   Document all actions.  Ask victim(s) and witness(es) for their written account of the incident.  Isolate and separate victims and witnesses.

9.   Assess counseling needs of victim(s) and witness(es).
