BUS ACCIDENT
1. Secure vehicle, administer critical first aid and inform transportation supervisor.
2. Transportation supervisor or driver calls 911 if injuries indicate. Superintendent is notified and given a list of who would likely be on the bus involved and which school it was going to. A bus is also dispatched to the scene to transport children who are uninjured to school or home if this is needed.
3. Keep all students on the bus unless safety conditions warrant their removal.
4. The receiving school's principal is notified and counselors and other crisis team workers meet the arriving children to debrief, or are potentially dispatched to the scene of the accident to assist depending on the severity of the incident.
5. Appoint staff to contact parents and as the information is available, inform them if their child is uninjured or injured and to what extent and where the injured have been transported.
6. Provide the school secretary and the district office secretary with a fact sheet to share with callers.
7. The superintendent (or designee) will prepare a statement public release to the media.
8. Personnel throughout the district are informed of the facts as quickly as possible. Staff and students with affected family members are informed individually.
